Many members of the Irish Canadian community appreciate that the only way in which they can become genuinely wealthy is by setting up their own businesses. That, at least, is what I have gathered from the conversations I have had with members of the Irish Canadian community in Vancouver. Yet in spite of them knowing that the only way in which they can become genuinely wealthy is by setting up businesses, we have a scenario where very few Irish Canadian people run their own businesses. In other words, majority of the Irish Canadian people opt to work as employees in other people’s businesses: in spite of them knowing that their best hopes for genuine financial success lies in setting up their own business enterprises.
Over time, I have come to realize that the members of the Irish Canadian community in Vancouver have to be given certain forms of help, if they are to successfully set up their own businesses (and be on their way to real financial success).
One key way in which the members of the Irish Canadian community can be helped to set up businesses is by being given entrepreneurship training. Through the entrepreneurship training, the members of the Irish Canadian community would be able to identify business opportunities and to generate viable business ideas. The entrepreneurship training would also help them overcome the fear of starting new businesses. That is a disabling fear, which often pushes a highly resourceful Irish Canadian man to go on working at, say, Nordstrom – and logging in to www.mynordstrom.com regularly to view modest paychecks – rather than plunging into the world of business where there are boundless earnings to be made.
The other key way in which members of the Irish Canadian community can be helped to set up businesses is by being given access to credit. This is critical, because my experience has shown that even members of the Irish Canadian community who have entrepreneurial skills (alongside an entrepreneurial mindset) are often unable to start businesses due to lack of capital. The way to help such people is by making it easier for them to access credit facilities.
